More Than a School…A Special Letter to the Columbus Montessori Community

Lenn Playground4Dear Friends and Families,

When I arrived at Columbus Montessori several years ago, I had suddenly lost my husband.  As I worked through the loss, the Columbus Montessori community embraced me like no community I have ever known.  Even though I was new to the community, everyone – staff, students, alumni, parents, the Board – welcomed me and supported me. It is one of the reasons I immediately fell in love with Columbus Montessori Education Center.

Columbus Montessori is more than a school, it is a community.  I am again asking for your understanding and support as I transition to another new phase of my life. It is with great sadness and joy that I share with you that I have resigned as Executive Director of CMEC. After the close of the school year, I will be staying on to work with the transition team and will complete my tenure during early summer.

Please know I haven’t come to this decision easily. I have watched so many children grow, made so many dear friends and thoroughly enjoyed my work these last three years. I am appreciative of the many opportunities I have had through this wonderful experience.

As many of you know, my son and his family, including my two grandsons, live in Savannah, Georgia. I am looking forward to having more flexibility so that I can spend more time with them. I am also looking forward to opportunities to volunteer, follow my passions and stay involved in the early childhood arena.

I know that CMEC is in very capable hands. The board, administration and teachers are top-notch representatives for the school and truly exemplify what it means to have passion for what you do. They have made working at CMEC an absolute pleasure and together we will work tirelessly to ensure a seamless transition of leadership.  As the plans for interim leadership are finalized, the information will be shared with all of you.

I also take great pleasure in knowing that CMEC has an incredible parent and alumni community committed to supporting the school. Columbus Montessori has a strong and brilliant future ahead of it and I cannot wait to see how far it goes.

When I think about my experience at CMEC, I am reminded of this quote by Dr. Maria Montessori “The things he [the student] sees are not just remembered; they form a part of his soul.” Truly, Columbus Montessori will always be a part of my soul.
