Wow! What a great first week of school. The start of a new school year has always been one of my favorite times of the year. I remember the rituals of childhood from shopping for new clothes to picking out school supplies to the excitement of seeing old friends and meeting new ones. As a teacher, I loved preparing the classroom environment, getting to know families and experiencing the pure joy of spending my days with children; which probably explains why I love being the Executive Director of CMEC.
I wanted to take this opportunity to share a few changes or updates for this school year. These include:
The format of Friday Notes has changed. Our weekly Friday Notes will provide either updates or notifications of key dates. On the final Friday of every month there will be a more expanded version that will share all of the exciting things happening in our classrooms.
There are two new members of our administrative team. Jill Aubert has assumed the position vacated by Sandy Mason as Director of Finance and Accountability. Her office is located in the CHP corridor. Erin El Koubi joined our team as the Education Coordinator. Her primary focus this year will be working with our Elementary and JKC staff. She brings a wealth of Montessori knowledge and experience to our school. Her office is located as you enter the school on the Astor Road side.
We partner with several entities to provide additional services for our students. Bradley Havelka is a school psychologist who is contracted through Columbus City Schools to provide support for students K-6. He will be here on Wednesdays. His office is next to Rekha’s. We will have a new Title One teacher this year; her name is Jennifer Ayers. She too, is contracted through Columbus City Schools. We contracted Northrup and Associates to provide speech and language services to our students. Their schedule is determined after we identify the number of students needing services. We continued our contract with Jump Bunch to provide our Physical Education programming to our K-6 students. This year’s coach will be Michael Morrell.
There were two office moves this year. Adriana, our school nurse, is now located next to Rekha’s office. She is here on Thursdays and Fridays. Ann, our Director of Operations, is now located in the main hallway. Before closing, I wanted to express our deepest appreciation for your Annual Fund contributions last year. Your generosity allowed us to redo our main parking lot; a much needed critical improvement.
As I lead Columbus Montessori Education Center into its 32nd year I am inspired by our talented staff and awed by your amazing children. We welcome your thoughts and ideas as we strive to achieve educational excellence across all of our programs. Here’s to another incredible year at CMEC!
