QUALITY AND ACCREDITATIONS

 

 A leader in quality care and education in Central Ohio, Columbus Montessori was the founding center for Champion of Children and part of the original development committee for Step Up To Quality. As a model resource in defining benchmark requirements for early care and education, Columbus Montessori has become a 4 star center under Ohio’s new star rating system. 

 

 Columbus Montessori Education Center is also a model school in the multi-year Caring Communities: Birth to Three Project with Early Care and Learning (ECAL) and Action for Children, a nationally cutting-edge effort to improve early care in urban child care centers drawing in large part on Montessori principles.  As part of Columbus Montessori’s commitment to academic excellence, the Center is accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), is an affiliate of the American Montessori Society (AMS) and administers a Teacher Education Program (TEP) accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE). 

 

Affiliate of the American Montessori Society (AMS) – AMS is an organization that supports and monitors authentic Montessori schools.  The school must also have an AMS consultation visit once every 5 years.

Accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) – Accreditation ensures that early education programs assess themselves against and make changes to meet established standards. Some of these standards are “structural” – such as class size, child-to-staff ratios, and teacher qualifications. Others are “relational” – how teachers interact with the children, the learning experiences the children have, and how parents are engaged.

Chartered by the State of Ohio Department of Education–  A Chartered Non-Public school is a private school that holds a valid charter issued by the state board of education and maintains compliance with the Operating Standards for Ohio’s Schools (Ohio Administrative Code 3301-35-12).

Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) Accredited Teacher Education Program MACTE develops valid and reliable accreditation standards that contribute toward quality Montessori teacher education. They serve as a resource to various stakeholder groups concerning quality issues in the Montessori field.

 

Step Up to Quality, Four Star Award WinnerStep Up to Quality is a Five Star quality rating system for childhood programs licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Step Up to Quality recognizes and promotes early care and education programs that meet quality benchmarks over and above minimum health and safety licensing standards.

Early Care and LearningECAL Partner-Early Care and Learning (ECAL) is a not-for-profit organization that works to create access to quality, safe, consistent early care experiences for all infants and toddlers in Ohio through advocacy, program initiatives and community education.
