As we all work through the aftermath of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, I wanted to respond to recent reports in the media listing Columbus Montessori as not having a Safety plan on file with the State Attorney General’s Office.
We have verified with the previous administration of Columbus Montessori that our School Safety Plan was filed with the State Attorney General’s office. We made contact with the State Attorney General’s office yesterday and requested that they verify submission of our Plan. They indicated they were not sure where the list of schools without Safety Plans was derived from and that we would receive a follow-up communication from Attorney General’s office staff.
In the interim, Columbus Montessori administration has moved forward with updating our School Safety Plan as required every three years. This is a top priority for our administrative team with plans to submit no later than Friday, December 21, 2012.
Please know that the safety and security of the students and faculty at Columbus Montessori is at the forefront of our minds every day and we are taking this opportunity to review and update our policies and procedures. Please feel free to contact myself or Lenn Turner regarding any questions or concerns that you may regarding school safety and security.
