Seeking Physical Education Teacher

Since 1984, Columbus Montessori Education Center (CMEC) has served as a model for authentic Montessori educational programs. Columbus Montessori is a dynamic Montessori center that provides early care and education for children six weeks through 6th grade including before and after care, a Summer Program and a nationally recognized Montessori Teacher Education Program (TEP). As part of CMEC’s commitment to excellence, the Center is accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children and is an affiliate of the American Montessori Society.

CMEC is a medium-sized non-profit organization in an urban community in Central Ohio that values socio-economic and cultural diversity. It is the mission of CMEC to nurture and develop the whole child through magnified learning and quality care in a diverse community.

CMEC is searching for a highly skilled, nurturing teacher to join our professional team as the Assistant Elementary teacher.

Job Description:

The physical education teacher instructs students in fitness and inspires them to live healthy lifestyles. The candidate would teach Physical Education classes to students from 2 years to 12 years of age with most focused work being with students’ grades 1 – 6. Be knowledgeable of the physical and social and emotional development of children 2 years to 12 years.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education and current licensure
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with Elementary age children

Job Requirements:

  • Adhere to all CMEC policies, safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Become knowledgeable with Montessori philosophy, terminology and methods.
  • Be skilled in positive classroom management techniques.
  • Create lesson plans that are in alignment with Ohio’s Academic Content Standards for Physical Education K-12.
  • Promote student independence and group work to promote appropriate socialization.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children, parents, and co-workers.
  • Participate in parent/teacher conferences.
  • Assist with lunch set-up and clean-up.
  • Assist with lunchtime, encouraging independence.
  • Assist with recess monitoring.
  • Support children who are having physical, social, or emotional difficulties.
